Hon'ble Mr. Justice, Amareshwar Sahay

Mr. Justice Amareshwar Sahay was born on 10th October 1948. He completed his schooling from Zila School, Ranchi and graduated in science from Ranchi College, Ranchi. Mr. Justice Sahay, graduated in Law from Chhotanagpur Law College, Ranchi securing first class, second position in the University and started his practice in the year 1970 in the District Court, Ranchi. Mr.Justice Sahay shifted his practice to the circuit Bench and permanent bench of Ranchi since its inception from 1972. Mr. Justice Sahay practiced in civil, criminal and constitution service matters with specialization in criminal and constitutional matters. He was appointed as special P.P. Vigilance of the State of Bihar and subsequently in the year 1998 was appointed as Govt. Advocate of Patna High Court, Ranchi Bench. He also held the elected post of Secretary General, Vice President as well as President of the Advocate’s Association of the Patna High Court, Ranchi Bench. He was the first elected President of Advocate’s Association of Jharkhand High Court, Ranchi. Mr. Justice, Sahay was designated as Senior Advocate by the Jharkhand High Court. He was retained counsel of Bihar State Financial Corporation, Bihar School Examination Board, Bihar State Mineral Development Corporation and Central Coalfields Limited etc. Mr. Justice Sahay was also Senior Panel Counsel of the Central Govt. He hails from a respectable eminent lawyer's family of Ranchi and his father, Sri Debi Prasad is the senior most Lawyers practicing in the High Court in Civil side.   He was elevated as a Judge of the Jharkhand High Court on 18th November’ 2002.
He retired from the Judgeship on 9th Oct’ 2010 and thereafter has been appointed as Lokayukta of Jharkhand for five years. He took oath as such on 3rd Jan’2011.
